Know When To Hold, Know When To Fold. I'm Folding
I bet you didn’t know that today is Davy Crockett’s
birthday. So, I went looking for some
story about him that I could connect with relationships, gender communication, or with personal growth
or anything in my areas of specialization.
But I could find nothing. So, I’ll
just leave it that way: Today is Davy Crockett’s birthday.
This is one tiny example of how you can have a great idea
but nothing comes from it. Do you get
down on yourself, “I should be able to think of a way to connect Davy to my
work”? Or, do you make up a connection,
regardless how tangential, “Davy was a man and he had a wife and children”? Or do you beat yourself up with how stupid
you were to have thought you could make a connection?
Or, do you say, “Nice try, but no bananas,” let go of the
idea and move on to something else?
I’m going to take the last route; I'm going to fold on this which gives me space to open up something new.
Happy Davy Crockett birthday, and I’ll write about something
else more relevant later!
