FROM GROUCH TO LOVER
Get ready for a rollercoaster ride in October.
Did you know that October 15 is National Grouch Day?
That’s really nice because it gives you permission to really have your worst day, especially towards the most important person in your life!
Don’t despair, because, two days later is Sweetest Day.
So, what do you need to move from being a Grouch to a Lover on Sweetest Day?
The day in between, October 16, is called Dictionary Day. Now why is that important? You may not believe this, but there is a brand new dictionary out that defines 80 words and phrases that men and women use differently. Which too often causes misunderstandings, hurt feelings, anger – without each partner understanding why.
For instance, take the word advice. Most men know by now that women don’t like it when men give them unsolicited advice. Yet, they continue to do it. Why? Are they stupid? No, men give advice as their way of saying they care, they want to be helpful. So, to the woman, it’s annoying, to the man, it’s a sign of caring.
How about the word intimacy? Most men use intimacy to mean intercourse. To women, though, intimacy means emotional closeness.
But, these are two of the most obvious words that men and women use differently. This dictionary has 78 other words, ranging from blame, nagging, questions, silence, to verbal tennis. Many are words and phrases that couples have never considered, yet not recognizing and respecting language differences can be destructive, even fatal, to a relationship.
Whoever thought up Dictionary Day must have hoped someday there would be an easy bridge between your being a grouch and a sweet lover...
And now there is!
