You Can't Make Me...But, I can't either!

Ok, today I need to write about ADD.  My wonderful web man reminds me every Monday that I need to write something here.  Well, today is Thursday and I keep looking at his 4-day-old email.  I started laughing real hard a few minutes ago when I realized I was silently saying, "You can't make me!"

Some people with ADD do well with a schedule.  I have a good friend who writes books by marking in her appointment calendar what days and hours she will work on her latest.  For those who work well with structure, that is a real help.  It may take some effort to get yourself to mark out the structure, but once you do, you probably follow it well.

Then, there are the rest of us who don't do well with structure at all.  I have tried marking my calendar, only to find it a total waste of time.  My writing scheduling is totally disorganized.  I write when the mood hits, regardless what my appointment book or the clock says.  I wish I could be more structured.  It would make life easier.  But that's not the way my body is put together.

So, for those of you who are like me, know that it's tough having to find a way to do what you want (as well as what you have to).  But, also know that because you don't do well with structure, you probably have a lot of spontaneous fun that our more structured friends don't!

Now, for a bit of seriousness. Even if structure won't work, you can figure out what will work.  It just takes time and creative effort.  And, mostly, it takes a desire to make sure you figure out some system that will work for you.

This, though, goes along with what I always say about people with ADD:  It's hard to be ADD; it takes a lot of creativity to figure out how to contend with it, but who is better skilled at tackling such difficult tasks, requiring a creative out-of-the-box thinking than someone with ADD.

I wouldn't give mine up for anything!
